Exploding Star upcycled textile art contains upcycled handwoven fabric swatches, handmade paper from upcycled warp yarn and upcycled remnant warp yarn. It is another step in my goal of reducing my studio waste towards zero impact.
I found inspiration from images of exploding stars and their destructive majesty. Exploding stars represent a burst of cosmic energy that signal the end of a star’s life and the beginning of a new chapter. This piece reflects that energy by overlaying many different materials and patterns to create a sense of fluid motion.
Like an exploding star, it simultaneously contains the structured cohesion of the original fabrics but embraces the ever-expanding new environment around it. The light wispy trails, the dusty finish on the black background and the small French knots all add to the visual impact, representing the cosmic dust that swirls after a supernova event.
